Backcountry Camps
At Girls Do Ski we have 5 different Backcountry Camps to ensure we can provide the best and most focused learning experienced for our guests. Safety is paramount, so although there are camps for all levels of backcountry experience, we do require those signing up to be a proficient downhill skier. In GDS lingo, that means you identify as Treeline or All Mountain on our skills guide.

Beginner Tour
This two or three day course in the RMR backcountry is for you if consider yourself to be a strong resort skier, and you are curious about the world of backcountry skiing. Maybe you’ve been once or twice, or maybe you’ve never gone at all. You’re looking for a safe space to get comfortable with the gear, practice some avalanche skills, and meet other inspired women+!
This beginner course is designed to help you understand basic touring techniques without the stress of a big day or hard objectives. Our certified ACMG guides will bring you through companion rescue, ski transitions, terrain observation, skin track technique, and choosing appropriate lines.

Small groups and hands-on instruction ensures personalized instruction that will set the foundations of your backcountry knowledge. All participants must come with their own packed lunch, backcountry skis, boots and skins, and a backpack that includes an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel.

Intermediate Tour
This intermediate-level camp is to accommodate skiers who are beyond ski touring basics but not quite ready to take on the Advanced Ski Touring courses. This course aims to reinforce your existing skill-set, boost your backcountry confidence and facilitate a network of like-minded females.
This two or three day camp will hone your skills while exploring RMR’s backcountry. For fairly new backcountry skiers, our certified ACMG guide will emphasize and review the fundamentals of ski touring, including essential backcountry equipment, terrain management and ski touring techniques. This camp will also focus on skin track techniques like how to break trail. Your confidence and comfort will deepen as your exposure to backcountry travel increases.
All participants must come prepared with their own packed lunch, backcountry skis, boots and skins, as well as a backpack that includes a modern avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel.

Advanced Tour
Are you looking to expand your backcountry knowledge, enhance your decision making skills and improve your efficiency in the mountains? This three-day camp will push you to the next level of backcountry travel with three days at Roger Pass.
The advanced course is designed to provide more experienced skiers the chance to build confidence and increase exposure to backcountry terrain with other like-minded females. This is a unique opportunity to explore the challenging Rogers Pass terrain in a safe and supportive environment. Our goal is to build the skill-set and foster the confidence to safely lead your friends on an adventure in the backcountry! We recommend coming ready for a big day, with broken in ski boots, and lots of familiarity with your personal gear.

Savvy Tour (expert)
Are you ready to step-up your backcountry leadership and tackle more committing mountain objectives? This camp offers the opportunity to do exactly that with three days of guided ski touring in Rogers Pass.
Our Savvy Ski Touring Camp is for the female skier who spends an average of 15+ days in the backcountry each season and is motivated to put the pedal to the metal when it comes to touring! Over the course of this three-day camp, you will explore new zones in Rogers Pass, learn and apply leadership skills and develop your skills as a proficient backcountry user. An accomplished ACMG guide will provide you with direct mentorship and all the beta on:
Advanced companion rescue - practice rescue scenarios and talk about snow science
Skin track setting - learn the art of the ideal skin track
Touring - put all the skills together to meet your touring objectives.

Guides Course
Consider this a friendly and fun pre-exam in preparation for the official ACMG ski guides exam. This course is built for ladies already pursuing a career as a ski guide or those of you who are seriously considering it.
This course offers direct and focused mentorship for ladies who may already have industry experience, but are seeking more personalized training. We will spend three hands-on days exploring your ski touring goals and reinforcing your existing skill-set, as well as identifying and supporting key areas for growth.
You’ll experience a personalized student-guide ratio to simulate the official guiding exam and to optimize one-on-one instruction. The three days will take place between Big Eddy Boulders and Rogers Pass, and you will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and to receive direct and individual feedback. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a camp-end report card including an overview of your skill set and specific strategies for growth.
This camp is open to max 4 participants.

* While it is not mandatory, we suggest that ladies who sign up for this camp have their CAA Operations Level One and 80-hour wilderness first aid certification, as well as crevasse rescue skills. This course is only open to expert skiers in order to ensure that you and your three fellow participants get the most valuable experience possible. We will pre-screen candidates for this course.
